The annual Frida Kahlo Fiesta painted the dusty streets of Old Town in Frida Kahlo cheer on a rainy day in July. The event was hosted by Sally Moon of W!ld Moon Boutique. The event began nine years ago in celebration of Mexican artist Frida Kahlo whose birthday and passing occurred in July. According to Moon, Kahlo has always been her icon. “I admired her courage and her tenaciousness and nothing actually stopped her not even her death bed.” The event consists of a look alike contest, a birthday cake for Kahlo and a live band. Next year the event will celebrate its 10th anniversary. *Gina Two Feathers and her dog Koko Frida. Two Feathers was inspired by the butterfly motifs sometimes found in Kahlo’s paintings signifying rebirth. She took second place in the look alike contest.
