According to a report by Albuquerque Fire Rescue the source of the fire was a trash fire that spread to the building. Long term resident of the area, Anna Martinez, neighbors witnessed homeless individuals setting personal items on fire in the alley moments before. Martinez also said homeless individuals in the area have had a history of taking shelter in nearby abandoned homes and of breaking into neighbors houses. No one was harmed because of the fire, and the fire appeared to be contained to one part of the building.
